The Persecution of Sikh and Hindu Communities in Pakistan

26 September 2022

This research was undertaken to raise awareness of recent and pre-existing persecution of Sikh and Hindu minority communities in Pakistan.

Our report was written not to bring the country or Islam into disrepute, but to highlight the main issues that prevent the peaceful habitation and equal treatment of marginalised religious minority groups living in Pakistan, and most importantly, to provide recommendations on where improvements can be made and how the UK can help.

In light of the recent discrimination Hindu minority communities have faced seeking aid during flood relief efforts in Pakistan, reporting on the plights and persecution religious minorities experience on an increasing basis is imperative at this point.

By examining recent headlines, cases studies and statistical analysis of atrocities against Sikh and Hindu minority girls, and how these crimes go unpunished, our data has been able to help us to provide solutions on how Pakistan’s political and justice systems can improve the country’s tolerance and protection of religious freedom and beliefs of its non-Muslim population.

Sharing our work will help us to conduct further research, provide briefings and make recommendations informed by the lived experiences of religious minorities in order to effectively secure for them total equality and sanctuary in Pakistan.
